Spell it right, spell it bright!

The StartWell Spelling Bee is our school-wide English spelling competition. It builds vocabulary, pronunciation, listening skills and the confidence to perform on stage.

Open to students of all classes
Age-appropriate word lists for each category
Certificates for all finalists, trophies for winners

Junior

Class 1 – 3

Middle

Class 4 – 6

Senior

Class 7 – 10

One winner per category

Competition Format

Three rounds to the trophy

ROUND 1

Class Round

Every student takes part in a written spelling test in their own classroom. Top spellers move ahead.

ROUND 2

Section Round

Class winners compete orally within their category — one word at a time.

GRAND FINAL

On Stage

Finalists spell on stage in front of judges, parents and the whole school.

Rules

How the Bee works

The pronouncer says the word, uses it in a sentence and repeats it.
Spellers may ask for the meaning or the word to be repeated.
Say the word, spell it, then say it again.
Once a letter is said, it cannot be changed.
The judges' decision is final.
